Miguel graduated in Biology from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 2005. In September 2008 he joined the PhD Programme in Computational Biology (PDBC) at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, Oeiras, Portugal. From November 2009 Miguel was a doctoral student supervised by Prof. Paul O'Higgins and Dr Leandro Monteiro at the Functional Morphology and Evolution Research Unit, The Hull York Medical School, The University of York. He was awarded his PhD degree in October 2013.
