Care was taken to form groups balanced in terms of the students' educational background. This encouraged students to help one another.

Given my non-biology academic background, I had initial concerns on whether I could fit in such a competitive context as the University of Oxford. At this point I now understand how important the PDBC's first year courses have been as a preparation for my PhD choices. Moreover, by having contact with other students' pre-PhD experiences and preparation opportunities from all possible corners of the world, I now also realize how outstanding the PDBC's setting is. The multitude of perspectives and critical thinking that students have been subjected to within the programme are undoubtly unique. I still see the PDBC as the best path I could have chosen for my academic career and still believe that the next generation of computational biologists in the decades to come will definitely be well represented thanks to the PDBC.
