Care was taken to form groups balanced in terms of the students' educational background. This encouraged students to help one another.
Daniel Gil Gonçalves Ferreira
|The late Daniel Ferreira got a degree in Psychology from the University of Lisbon, in 2004. Between 2005 and 2006 he was a trainee at Jorge Carneiro's group at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, where did a short research project on simulation of the sensori-motor coordination in the worm C. elegans. He joined the PhD Program in Computational Biology in 2006 and in next year he started his research towards the PhD, at the Department of Statistics, Columbia University, New York. His research project entitled "Determining synaptic activity from physiological data" was supervised by Liam Paninski. Daniel died in 2010. His critical mind, friendship, and disarming laugh are missed by all who had the privilege to cross his path.
